Infectious disease – a 21st century challenge

The ithree institute at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) brings together an internationally competitive team focused on addressing key challenges in the understanding and control of infectious diseases in humans and animals.

The institute’s innovative science uses a systems biology approach to develop a greater insight into basic biology and its application to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infectious diseases.

The ithree institute was launched in November 2010 and was born out of the foundations laid by the Institute for the Biotechnology of Infectious Diseases (IBID).

IBID was originally established in 2002 to develop a core activity in infectious disease research. IBID developed significant research programs in the areas of protozoology, helminthology, bacteriology and virology.
